Who needs a striker?
Bayern don't need a classic centre forward. That's the view of former FC Bayern München centre forward Giovane Elber, who spoke to Bild following the Bavarians' 2-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach. "It's hard for strikers under Guardiola, as it's all about possession," said the Brazilian, who scored 92 goals in 169 appearances for Bayern between 1997 and 2003. "Without a centre forward, the midfielders have more room, which is good for Thomas Müller and Mario Götze. It is indeed, Giovane!
Taking a break
Bayern's players deserved a relaxing weekend after Pep Guardiola's charges became the first team to leave Borussia Park with all three points this season. He may not be as used to sub-zero temperatures as some of his team-mates, but Javi Martinez seemed to enjoy his trip to the FIS Ski World Cup in Kitzbühel, Austria.

Many happy returns
Happy birthday Rani Khedira! The VfB Stuttgart midfielder, who is the younger brother of Real Madrid CF star and Germany international Sami, turned 20 on Monday. The youth international has only made two appearances for Thomas Schneider's team so far this season, but Sami certainly has time on his side.
