Mario Mandzukic remains on top of the scoring charts after netting his 18th ...

Super Mario

Mario Mandzukic made some noteworthy statistics in his 17-minute cameo in the 2-0 victory against Eintracht Braunschweig. He scored his fifth goal as a substitute, (a joint league best with Maxim Choupo-Moting) and equalled the record of goals for a Croatian player in a Bundesliga season - he now has 18, the same total managed by Josip Skoblar for Hannover 96 1968/69. Bayern also ended a run of two games and 374 minutes without scoring.

Shinji who?

1. FSV Mainz 05 remain on course for Europe but have lost their last three away games, and their last six against Borussia Dortmund following the 4-2 defeat to BVB at the Signal Iduna Park, where they have also never won. On a more positive note, Shinji Okazaki has now scored 13 goals this season - more than he managed in three years at former club VfB Stuttgart - and has equalled the previous record for a Japanese player in a single season, jointly held by Shinji Kagawa.

Striking defenders

1. FC Nürnberg have now lost for the fourth time in a row and have lost eight of their last nine games and are sliding ever closer towards Bundesliga 2 following Sunday's 4-1 reverse at home to Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Curiously enough, all four goalscorers were defenders who opened their season accounts in the Grundig Stadion, with centre-back Emir Spahic even netting a brace. Leverkusen, now back up to fourth, are also the first club for whom three defenders have scored in a single Bundesliga match this term. This weekend also saw a total of eight players score their first goal of the campaign.

Landmark win for VfB

VfB Stuttgart celebrated their 700th win in the Bundesliga after beating 3-1 victory against FC Schalke 04, a number that only Bayern, SV Werder Bremen and Hamburger SV have also reached. VfB have now taken seven points from their last three games and are have a four-point cushion over the relegation play-off spot. Die Schwaben owed their victory to being highly clinical in front of goal, as they scored three out of their four shots on target.

Augsburg struggling?

FC Augsburg have scored against every team in the Bundesliga this season, but their goalless draw against Hertha Berlin was the second time this term that the two sides have drawn a blank against one another. Indeed, the Berliners' keeper Thomas Kraft was a veritable spectator in the SGL Arena, as not a single one of Augsburg's ten attempts goal were on target. Die Függerstädter are the only team currently playing in the top flight that Hertha have never beaten in their Bundesliga history (three draws, one loss), while Markus Weinzierl's side have now only won one of their last seven games (against FC Bayern).
